AHEC Scholars – New Program for Health Professional Students

The Central Illinois AHEC is launching the Illinois AHEC Scholars Program. Scholars will go through online, self paced training modules focusing on key topics in underserved healthcare. Eligible students are those with at least two years remaining in a health professions program such as Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Nursing (all levels), Pharmacy, Medical, Physician’s Assistant, Physical Therapy, two-year Allied Health programs, and others. Intervention Tools and Strategies for Special Populations

On November 8, 2019, Central Illinois AHEC co-sponsored a continuing professional development opportunity with the Illinois School Psychology Internship Consortium (ISPIC).  This full day event was attended by 40 students, pre-doctoral interns and professionals in the fields of Psychology and Social Work and was held at Illinois State University’s Alumni Center. AmeriCorps Position Available to Teach Mental Health First Aid

Illinois State University’s Central Illinois Area Health Education Center is recruiting for a Healthy Minds Alliance AmeriCorps Member to teach Mental Health First Aid in 2020. The Member will teach others how to support individuals who are experiencing a mental health challenge or illness. One in five adults has a diagnosed mental illness. 2020 Student Training Award

The Central AHEC will sponsor up to 10 $500 Health Professions Student Training Awards in 2020. Students in the health professions can apply this award to educational expenses including books, scrubs, housing, travel, workshops or conferences, etc. Continue reading
