Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges among adults. This course covers the signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges, how to interact with a person in crisis, how to connect a person with help, and includes expanded content on trauma, substance use and self-care.
Learn how to respond with the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE):
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm
- Listen nonjudgmentally
- Give reassurance and information
- Encourage appropriate professional help
- Encourage self-help and other support strategies
Mental Health First Aid is nationally recognized and workshop completers receive a certificate as a Mental Health First Aider.
The IL AHEC Network hosts virtual courses that include 2 hours of online self-paced pre-work and a 5.5 hour instructor led class on Zoom. Participants must complete all the coursework and attend the full workshop to receive a certificate. Please contact your local AHEC director for upcoming dates and to sign up!
