The Illinois AHEC Network partners will a variety of organizations across the state to provide hands-on healthcare career exploration camps for K-8 and high school students. These camps are for students who have a budding interest in a health profession to explore health careers, meet working health professionals, and visit local health facilities. Health careers camps give participants a unique opportunity to gain more knowledge about the health professions they may want to pursue, meet peers with the same goals, and learn what it’s really like to be a college student. Students will also receive information about education and training, academic requirements, financial aid, and campus life. Many health careers camps are offered at no cost to the students.
Rural Health Careers Camp – DeKalb, Illinois

- The Rural Health Careers Camp is a three-day, overnight educational program for high school students interested in the healthcare field held at Northern Illinois University. Students will participate in hands-on learning activities and labs that represent different healthcare careers and stay in a residence hall to experience living on a college campus.
Health Careers Summer Camp – University Park, IL

- The Health Careers Camp is a two-day camp that focuses on different health career programs offered at Governors State University’s College of Health and Human Services. These programs include Occupational Therapy, Communication Disorders, Physical Therapy, Nursing, Community Health, Social Work, Health Administration/Health Informatics, and Addictions. Campers will be coached in basic CPR as well as complete a field trip to a local medical facility.
Healthcare Careers Camp – Springfield, Illinois

- The Healthcare Careers Camp is a three-day camp for high school students interested in exploring healthcare careers hosted at Memorial Health Springfield. Students participate in hands-on activities at the Memorial Learning Center, explore educational pathways to various health careers, and learn from current healthcare professionals in the field.
Pathways to Saluki Medicine – Carbondale, Illinois

- Pathways to Saluki Medicine is a medical-based summer camp hosted at SIU campus by the Physiology Department at SIU School of Medicine. It is a 5-day overnight camp for any high school students interested in the medical field or biomedical science.
SIU-E IMAGINE Academy (Nursing Focused Camp) – Edwardsville, IL

- IMAGINE Summer Success Academy is a 4-day summer camp tailored to high school students aspiring to pursue a career in nursing. IMAGINE offers a comprehensive and immersive college

SIU-E Next Gen Pharmacy Camp – Edwardsville, IL

- Spend a week at SIUE exploring pharmacy through interactive labs, real world activities, and opportunities to meet pharmacy professionals. Students will stay in SIUE residence halls for a true on campus experience while discovering how a career in pharmacy can make a positive impact.

Pathways to Healthcare – Olney, Illinois

- Hosted at Olney Central College, Pathways to Healthcare Camp offers students in grades 6–12 a hands-on day of exploring healthcare careers through emergency simulations, patient case studies, and interactive skill stations. Sponsored by AHEC and Carle RMH, the camp provides real-world insight into fields like EMS, radiology, lab testing, and physical therapy.
