The Illinois AHEC Network is excited to offer a Virtual Adult Mental Health First Aid Training open to all Illinois AHEC Scholars. This training is designed for anyone interested in learning how to better support the mental health needs of adults in their community.
Pre-Work Required:
All participants must complete required self-paced online modules prior to the live virtual session.
What You’ll Learn:
-
How to identify common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges and substance use disorders in adults.
-
Strategies for approaching and supporting someone experiencing a mental health crisis or developing a mental health problem.
-
How to listen nonjudgmentally, give reassurance, and connect individuals to appropriate professional help and community resources.
-
How to assist someone experiencing a crisis until appropriate help is available.
Why This Matters to the AHEC Network:
Promoting mental health awareness and equipping individuals with the skills to respond effectively aligns with AHEC’s mission of building a stronger, healthier community. By training community members, we help reduce stigma, improve early intervention, and create a supportive network for those facing mental health challenges.
