One of our AHEC Scholars, James Ramette, took part in a three-day Rural Health Experience at Memorial Hospital Chester last week.

As part of the RHE, James got to meet with the hospital CEO, shadow multiple physicians and surgeons, and received supper and a tour of Chester with a physician. He plans to continue to medical school and pursue primary care, oncology or cardiology. His hotel stay and meals were covered by Chester Memorial Hospital and South Central AHEC.
“I learned many things during my time at Memorial Hospital including, operations of a rural family physician, emergency room physician and many more,” James told Memorial Hospital. “This has been an amazing experience that has strengthened my resolve to enter the medical field.”
A junior at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, James graduated from Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville, where participation in the Medical Explorers Program sparked his interest in a medical career. Our hope is that by investing in these experiences, one day James will return to a rural or underserved community to practice.
