Opioid Safety Conference – Oct 9 (free CME/CE)

Sponsored by the DuPage County Department of Public Health, this is an opportunity to learn about pain management, tapering strategies, dependency, treatment, referral strategies and health outcomes. The psychological and social determinants of health that account for variation in pain intensity will also be discussed.

This is a unique opportunity to hear from nationally recognized clinical leaders. Dr. David Ring, Associate Dean for Comprehensive Care and professor at the Dell Medical School, University of Texas at Austin will provide strategies and a toolkit for safe and effective alleviation of acute pain. Dr. Joseph Fojtick from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations will present current Illinois guidelines, continuing education requirements, and available resources. Dr. William Campbell, a family medicine physician in suburban Chicago will review safety guidelines with a focus on tapering opioid therapy for patients with chronic noncancer pain. Dr. Elizabeth Salisbury-Afshar, director of the Center for Addiction Research and Effective Solutions at the American Institutes for Research will review diagnostic criteria for opioid use disorder, treatment options and referral protocols.
