Mia Bonds started this month as the AHEC coordinator for the Chicago AHEC region.
Mia holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology-Athletic Training with double minors in Health Promotion and Psychology from Michigan State University. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health from Central Michigan University. Prior to joining Health & Medicine (Chicago AHEC’s host organization), she worked in real estate and served on various fair housing committees.
As the AHEC coordinator, she is responsible for scheduling community programs in 35 community areas of Chicago, recruiting and securing speakers who will expose students in underserved communities to health care careers, and presenting the Enhancing Active Listening series to community health workers.
Mia has a passion for maternal and child health and would love to work in research geared towards decreasing the maternal mortality rate. In the future, Mia hopes to work on policy directly affecting maternal health.
In her spare time, Mia serves on the board of directors of her neighborhood’s not-for-profit organization and is a Kidlist contributor. She enjoys sports, reading, writing, and spending time with her family.
