In Spring 2019, the Illinois Rural Health Association awarded scholarships to 11 to students who are interested in practicing in rural areas. Scholarships were awarded in areas of great demand: dental care, mental health care, health information technology and medical billing and coding.
Dental Scholarship winners: Ben Sowle from Crawford County and Parker Upchurch of Saline County to attend the SIUE School of Dentistry and Krista Kessler of Crawford County to attend the dental hygiene program at SUIC.
Social and Science winners: Jamie Stevens from Champaign County to study human development counseling at UIS; Alex Eggar from Boone County to study counseling at NIU and Brittany Campbell from Jefferson County to study social work at SIUC
Health Informatics winners: Mikki Roberson and Virginia Williams to attend Frontier Community College.
Medical Billing and Coding winners: Dana Wetzel and Rachel Reed to attend Kaskaskia Community College; and Cara Stallard to attend Lake Land Community College.
