Illinois AHEC Receives $6.5 million to continue its work

The Illinois AHEC Network Program has received a five-year grant renewal from the federal Health Resources and Services Administration to continue its work throughout the state of Illinois.

The network, founded in 2010, is housed at the National Center for Rural Health Professions on the Rockford campus of the University of Illinois Chicago’s Rockford College of Medicine. Illinois AHEC maintains nine regional centers, each designed to meet local workforce needs.

“Illinois AHEC plays a critical role preparing students to join the Illinois health care workforce. This five year grant will allow us to continue our work across Illinois,” said Hana Hinkle, Illinois AHEC director, assistant dean of the National Center of Rural Health Professions, and a faculty member of the UIC Rockford College of Medicine.

“We are excited to be able to provide a wide variety of programs for students, including the AHEC Scholars program, while we also work to retain current workforce members”, she added.
