On September 27, 2019, West Central Illinois AHEC took part in a Healthcare Expo for local high school students. The event was held at John Woods Community College in Quincy, Illinois, for area high school students.West Central Illinois AHEC (WCIL AHEC) co-sponsored the event and had a fantastic day working with all the partners and the students. With over 150 students in attendance, WCIL AHEC provided a presentation and training on the Day in the Life of a Diagnostic Technologist. Material for the presentation was graciously provided by the Director of Diagnostic Imaging from Memorial Hospital, Carthage, Illinois, which is the host site for WCIL AHEC. To the delight of the students, Breakout boxes (www.breakoutedu.com) were used to demonstrate the importance of teamwork in healthcare. The Breakout boxes required the students to answer questions and then use problem solving skills to find the clues that would open each lock and eventually lead to the puzzle answer. None of the students had used the Breakout boxes before, and commented on how fun it was to work together as a team to answer the questions. WCIL AHEC stressed that this is how a healthcare team must work together to provide quality patient care. The Healthcare Expo was a feature story on WGEM news in Quincy, Illinois , and can be found at the following link: https://wgem.com/2019/09/27/healthcare-expo-to-provide-learning-opporunity-for-high-school-students/
