The Illinois AHEC Scholars program uniquely blends community-based experiential opportunities with online training on key topics including social determinants of health and cultural competency.
In the community-based portion of the program, Scholars have the opportunity to network and work closely with health departments, federally qualified health centers and health systems across the state. You take part in immersion experiences in underserved communities and a community service learning project.
Being a participant in an AHEC program allows you to see that strong leadership within rural and underserved urban medicine can transform not only the lives of patients, but entire communities.
