The Rural Medical Education program (RMED) Class of 2024 all matched in this year’s Match Day, the annual event where graduating medical students learn where they will begin their careers.
Match Day was filled with plenty of excitement, joy, and emotion.
RMED’s 50 fourth-year medical students matched into 19 specialties in 16 states. Because the number of residency positions in hospitals across the country is limited, about 10% of aspiring physicians fail to match in a given year.
Of RMED’s 50 students – largest number – matched into programs in Illinois, and another 19 into neighboring Missouri, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana.
Forty-eight percent of the students matched into primary care specialties.
