As you may have noticed, the Illinois Area Health Education Centers Network website looks a little different. The new website highlights our regional centers, their programs and what it’s like to live and work in their communities. The diversity of Illinois, its communities and residents is evident when you pursue the work of the various centers.

The new site contains some new interactive features. The regional centers are accessible via an interactive map. Another new interactive map, offering employer links, doubles as a job search tool and volunteering look-up, connecting you to the careers page and volunteers page at every licensed hospital in the state.

The site also contains a wealth of information on our programs and demonstrates how AHEC helps Illinois communities – rural and urban – meet local health challenges and ensure that all residents have access to the care they need. A new Community section, under Programs, highlights how AHEC serves the communities that comprise each of the regional centers. In addition to the descriptions, the large photos are all drawn from our actual work and activities. Browse the site, and get a look at all the possibilities that AHEC has to offer.

We’ve added many resources developed by the various centers to the site, making them available statewide. Among the highlights are Health Career Information Sheets developed by Northwest Illinois AHEC and the Careers Handbook assembled by the Chicago AHEC.

The site incorporates information and an online application for the new AHEC Scholars program, designed to enhance career success for health professions students by allowing them to learn about social determinants of health and gain real-world exposure to community-based health and clinical services.

Finally, we’ve made many efforts to ensure that the new website is responsive and can be used on mobile devices. It offers better ease of use and navigability to site visitors, with more related content being cross-linked.
