This training in McLean County Health Department’s 2023 Mental Health First Aid training series is the only one focused on children and adolescents (ages 12-18).
This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care.
You will learn about the common signs and symptoms of substance use and mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD). You will also gain an understanding of how to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis and how to connect the youth with help.
Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based, eight-hour training course designed to give members of the public key skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
