400+ 7th- to 12th-Graders Learn Attend Health Careers Fair

West Central AHEC Coordinator Tierra Collier was among the presenters at a March 3 health careers fair at Rushville-Industry High School, in Rushville.   

The fair, held in the high school gym, was attended by 260 high school students and 146 middle school students. The event featured representatives from health care, human and public services, business, agriculture, arts and technology, and manufacturing.

Tierra’s presentation included demonstrations that highlighted public health careers, including visually showing how much sugar is in our favorite carbonated drinks. She also had students play a health and wellness trivia game. The students would spin the wheel for a trivia topic, and win a prize if they got could give the right answer to a question on that topic. The topics were mental health, food and nutrition, physical activity, self-care, health promotion, hygiene, and sleep.
